Why Privacy Matters

I believe that when the public lacks even the most fundamental access to what its governments and militaries are doing in their names, then they cease to be involved in the act of citizenship.

Chelsea Manning, Whistleblower

I don't see myself as a hero because what I'm doing is self-interested: I don't want to live in a world where there's no privacy and therefore no room for intellectual exploration and creativity.

Edward Snowden, Whistleblower

On privacy issues, it's just like hundreds of years ago when people said, 'I would rather put my money under my pillow than in a bank.' But today, banks know how to protect money much better than you do. Today, we may not have the answers to privacy issues, but I believe our young people will come up with the solutions.

Jack Ma, Alibaba Founder

Historically, privacy was almost implicit, because it was hard to find and gather information. But in the digital world, whether it's digital cameras or satellites or just what you click on, we need to have more explicit rules - not just for governments but for private companies.

Bill Gates, Microsoft Founder

Our Mission

Here is a quick introduction to why we created this site and where we are coming from. In all sections of our site, we go into detail with a specific part of privacy. Here we briefly explain why it matters. You need to understand a broad range of topics to keep save in today's world.

Stay hidden and keep safe! We are a friendly student project that wants to help you keep your data safe from companies and governments alike.

Most of us are computer science students and we deeply believe that technology is not a threat, but the solution to privacy protection. Furthermore, we believe that the free flow of information is more important to democracy than any other principle, even more than the right to vote. You cannot vote freely if you do not have access to information that helps you make a decision.

We think that anti-surveillance tactics and knowledge about privacy and anonymity have to be taught in a user-friendly way to make sure, that people without an IT background can take advantage of them.

We are living in a perfect time for privacy protection! Even though governments try to unlawfully gather your data, that does not mean that you have to let them do it. There is very user-friendly software available that offers strong protection, so we can make corrupt officials powerless!

Easy to use on Desktop

PCs are still the most capable devices if you want to take advantage of privacy tools. They have the largest number of programs available for encryption, secure communication and anonymity.

Modern Technology

On this site we only recommend the best technologies. That means, in our opinion, open-source software that uses advanced and thoroughly tested algorithms, protocols and methods.

Easy to use on Mobile

You should never compromise on privacy when using the mobile platform. Smartphones and tablets are pocket-sized computers and make implementing data protection a breeze.
